Writing assignment for week of Aug 27 -- Dispersal (Alberts):

Choose ONE of the assignments below to write about.  Limit your paper to two double-spaced pages.  Due four weeks after my last lecture (i.e., on September 26).

1.  Summarize Greenwood's hypothesis, and identify its weaknesses and strengths.

2.  Describe the dispersal patterns of an animal species that does not fit Greenwood's mating system hypothesis.  Is there another hypothesis in the literature or that you have developed that does explain the dispersal patterns of this animal?

3.  Review and critique Hamilton and May's (1977) model for the evolution of dispersal and the evolutionarily stable proportion of offspring that will disperse in their model system.
