In-Class Exercises:

Periodically, there will be group exercises in class.  Performance in these exercises will account
for 20% of your grade.

Discussions:

Every student is expected to attend one hour of discussion per week.  The discussions will
amplify several aspects of the lectures and provide small class exercises and demonstrations.
There will also be short quizzes and reading and writing assignments.  Performance in discussion will account
for 20% of your grade.

For discussions, there will sometimes be supplemental readings.  These will be available online at
the course web site.  You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, or some other program capable of
handling .pdf files, to view and print the readings.

Exams:

There will be three exams, each accounting for 20% of your grade.  The first two exams will not
be cumulative, and will cover only material immediately preceding that exam.  The final exam will be cumulative
to some extent, though it will emphasize material covered since the last exam.
