Carrie is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab. She recently received her PhD from Northern Arizona University working on the functional morphology of feeding in frogs.

Carrie is planning to look at the development of the feeding system in frogs with a focus on the highly specialized Pipidae. These frogs feed underwater and use suction during prey capture. They have completely lost their tongue and have a highly modified hyoid and associated musculature. Morphological development of the hyoid from embryonic tissues through metamorphosis into adult structures will be described and molecular signals will be identified. These results will be compared to more typical lingual-feeding frogs.
