Sandy Boles

Sandra Boles

Research Technician (1996-2003, 2006-)

I think of myself as the lab "Jane-of-all-trades." I'm responsible for the benchwork element of Shaw research, and for keeping everyone else supplied with the things they need in the lab. I also instruct incoming novices in the ways of DNA, and enforce the occasional lab clean-up! My educational background is in invertebrate zoology and marine science, and I've worked as a technician on projects ranging from the identification of oyster parasites to studies of "systemic acquired resistance" in plants. My practical expertise and interest in molecular systematics seem to serve me well in the bryology lab, and I've been happily employed at Duke for the past five years.
