Why Does It Matter?

Climate change has an inexhaustible effect in a world where humans have access to almost every habitat and constantly harvest and exploit other biota. Any changes in biotic communities because of global warming may have been caused by humans and will, either directly or indirectly, affect humans. In some cases, the impacts will be minimal, whereas in other cases, societies could be devastated.

The potential spread of disease has ecological, social, and economic implications. Populations of species, as well as human communities, could be stricken with ailments. Since medicine is a multi-billion dollar industry, infections and maladies in human communities introduce economic and political considerations. Many agencies research and distribute regulations in order to control the extent of disease. As diseases spread, public policy and social programs must address the dangers to and concerns of the populace.
