There are 746 plants species listed as Threatened or Endangered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  Of these 713 are flowering plants, 5 are conifers, 26 are ferns or fern allies, and 2 are lichens.  Recovery plans exist for 585 of these species.  In comparison, there are 1,070 animals, both vertebrate and invertebrate, listed.  There are recovery plans for 392 animal species.
