I am broadly interested in the coupling of carbon and nutrient cycles between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.  Most of my research to date has focused on effects of elevated phosphorus on leaf decomposition dynamics in lowland Neotropical streams in Costa Rica.  I am now focusing on how hydrologic and biological (vegetation) restoration of a large wetland ecosystem will affect nutrient cycling in the Coastal Plains of North Carolina.  More specifically, I will be examining how the flooding regime can affect carbon and phosphorus cycling through changes in soil redox potential and pore water chemistry.
