Directions to the Department of Biology
Duke is located near the intersection of two major interstate highways,
I-40 and I-85 in Durham, North Carolina. The Raleigh-Durham International
Airport, which is served by 12 airlines, is 15 miles--and a twenty-minute
drive--southeast of campus.
Airport Transportation: A taxi ride from RDU Airport to campus will
cost about $30. If you are interested in other transportation from the
airport (rental cars, shuttle services) please visit the RDU International
Airport website.
From Chapel Hill
• Follow 15-501 from Chapel Hill towards Durham
• Take the 15-501 North Bypass/Duke University exit (you will exit
to the right)
• Follow for approximately 3 miles and exit at Morreene Road.
• Turn right at the top of the ramp. Follow Morreene through two
lights where it intersects Erwin Road.
• As you cross the intersection, the roads name changes to Towerview
Road and you are on the Duke campus.
To the Biological Sciences Building French Family Science Center and Phytotron:
• Turn left onto Science Drive at the next light and continue
down the hill.
• The Biological Sciences Building will be on the left and visitor
parking is located in the Parking Garage directly across the street. Go
past the garage and to the right to enter.
From Raleigh and RDU Airport
• Take I-40 West
• Bear right at Exit 279 onto Durham Freeway North (NC 147); continue
into Durham.
• Take exit 16B onto 15-501 towards Chapel Hill.
• Immediately, take the Morreene Road exit and turn left at the top
of the ramp.
• Follow Morreene through two lights where it intersects Erwin Road.
• As you cross the intersection, the roads name changes to Towerview
Road and you are on the Duke campus.
To the Biological Sciences Building, French Family Science Center and Phytotron:
• Turn left onto Science Drive at the next light and continue
down the hill.
• The Biological Sciences Building will be on the left and visitor
parking is located in the Parking Garage directly across the street. Go
past the garage and to the right to enter.
From Interstate 85 traveling south
• Exit to the left at Exit 174-B onto "15-501 South By-Pass/Duke
University/Chapel Hill"
• Take the second exit to the right onto the service road.
• Take the Morreene Road exit and turn left at the top of the ramp.
• Follow Morreene through two lights where it intersects Erwin Road.
• As you cross the intersection, the roads name changes to Towerview
Road and you are on the Duke campus.
To the Biological Sciences Building, French Family Science Center and Phytotron:
• Turn left onto Science Drive at the next light and continue
down the hill.
• The Biological Sciences Building will be on the left and visitor
parking is located in the Parking Garage directly across the street. Go
past the garage and to the right to enter.
From Interstate 85/40 traveling north/east
• Take exit 172 off Interstate 85 North toward NC 147 South and
downtown Durham.
• Take the 15-501 South exit 16B towards Chapel Hill.
• Staying on the ramp, take the Morreene Road exit and turn left
at the top of the ramp.
• Follow Morreene through two lights where it intersects Erwin Road.
• As you cross the intersection, the roads name changes to Towerview
Road and you are on the Duke campus.
To the Biological Sciences Building, French Family Science Center and Phytotron:
• Turn left onto Science Drive at the next light and continue
down the hill.
